Open in an order that preserves return evidence
Clear enough floor for one carton and keep labels visible. Open carefully so packaging can protect parts during layout and, if required, support a retailer claim. Match hardware bags to the manual before mixing them. Separate cosmetic damage from structural damage: a marked hidden face may be acceptable to the customer, while a split load-bearing panel may make assembly unsafe. Do not drill, glue or modify a defective part before the retailer decides, because alteration can affect return rights. Photograph the part number and damage. The customer, not the assembler, decides whether to accept a disclosed cosmetic issue or pause for replacement.
