Rehearse the layout at full scale with removable tape
A small drawing can make furniture look easier to live with than it is. Mark the outer edges of proposed pieces on the floor and use removable tape to show heights on a plain surface that will not be damaged. Place cardboard at the deepest projection, then walk the real routes while carrying a laundry basket, opening curtains and pulling out the work chair. Sit down to test sightlines and reach. Product dimensions should come from current manufacturer information, including handles and overhangs. This rehearsal often shows that one generous unit works better than several narrow additions. Photograph the preferred arrangement and record the rejected option as well, so the decision is not reopened when the room has been cleared for work.
