Measure the opening, not only the old door
Existing leaves are not always an accurate template: they may have been heavily trimmed or fitted to a distorted frame.
Accurate fitting for internal doors and garden gates
A door or gate should move cleanly, close reliably and suit its frame, hardware and environment. Accurate measurement and careful adjustment make the difference between a neat fit and recurring problems.

WHAT WE CAN HELP WITH
The scope is reviewed around the property, existing condition and the result you need.
Existing leaves are not always an accurate template: they may have been heavily trimmed or fitted to a distorted frame.
Hinge size and position should suit the weight and construction of the leaf.
Fire doors are safety systems, not ordinary joinery.
DOOR HANGING AND GATE INSTALLATION LONDON
Existing leaves are not always an accurate template: they may have been heavily trimmed or fitted to a distorted frame. We measure the opening, check squareness and consider floor finishes, stops and clearances. New doors have manufacturer limits on trimming, especially hollow-core and engineered products. Confirm the door construction, handing, finish and supplied hardware before ordering so the proposed fit is achievable.
Hinge size and position should suit the weight and construction of the leaf. The latch, handles and keep need accurate alignment so closing does not require force. A frame with loose joints or significant distortion may need repair before a new door is hung. Finishing exposed edges and hinge recesses helps protect timber, but full decorating should be agreed separately. We test movement and closure through the available swing.
Fire doors are safety systems, not ordinary joinery. Door leaf, frame, hinges, closers, seals, gaps and hardware work together to achieve performance. Alteration or installation should follow the relevant specification and may need a competent specialist and certification. Communal entrance doors and doors in converted buildings may also have security, acoustic or lease requirements. We flag these conditions rather than applying a standard internal-door method.

CAREFUL PROPERTY WORK
A timber gate needs sound posts, appropriate clearances and hardware sized for its weight and exposure. Ground levels, paving, slopes and wind affect operation. Existing posts should be checked for decay or movement before a new gate is attached. Where new posts are needed, underground services and boundary ownership must be considered. The customer should confirm the legal boundary and obtain any necessary freeholder or neighbour agreement.
External timber changes with moisture and temperature, so small seasonal movement is normal. Suitable clearances and a protective finish reduce sticking, while adjustable hardware can help some gates. Keep hinges secure, renew coatings and prevent vegetation or soil holding moisture against posts. A gate repeatedly dropping may indicate post movement or undersized hardware, not merely a latch problem.
Provide full-height photographs from both sides, close-ups of frame and hardware, approximate opening dimensions and the product link for the proposed door or gate. Mention floor replacement, new carpets, access controls or locks. For a gate, include the posts, ground and boundary context. This information helps determine whether the work is a straightforward hang, a repair-first job or a more involved installation.

DOOR HANGING AND GATE INSTALLATION FAQ
Useful answers for planning the work.
Usually within the manufacturer’s permitted limits. Excessive trimming can weaken or invalidate some doors.
Yes when included in the scope and compatible hardware is supplied or agreed.
Fire-door work needs the correct specification and competent installation; the requirements are assessed separately.
Only if they are sound, stable and suitable for the new gate’s weight and hardware.
Timber swelling, ground movement, hinge wear or post movement may contribute. The cause should be checked before adjustment.
